Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving Day in the USA and falls on the Friday after the fourth Thursday in November. It is a busy shopping day and is a holiday in some states in America. There would be lots of deals and sales at both online stores and walk-ins.

So what benefit is there for my Niger peeps? Folks at home can benefit from this sale-day by shopping online. (see list of online stores here).

This year’s black Friday falls on Friday, November 29 and here are some tips to help you shop like a pro:
Go on store websites a week before Black Friday and search for coupons. Everybody knows you can get coupons in paper on Thanksgiving. But department and electronic stores will have similar and sometimes better coupons that can be printed from their official website. You can usually use these deals for online shopping, as well.

Use PayPal to purchase Christmas gifts online. You can ask your friends and families in the USA to assist. PayPal offers discounts to shoppers several times during the year, including the month of December. If you have an account with PayPal, you will receive an email about this as Christmas approaches. You can also find these deals by logging into your PayPal account. Click the “Products & Services” tab on your account screen and select the “Shop online” link. On the alternative you can shop with your Master or Visa card on several websites. GTB master card is accepted on several websites but GTB may not necessary have the best offer in terms of exchange rate.

Sign up to receive emails from your favorite stores. These emails will allow you to use “online-only” discounts not available to in-store shoppers. Most electronic and department stores allow you to do this directly from their website. You can also sign up to receive these emails while in the store. Expect to receive at least two emails a week from these stores at December.

Log onto the website http://www.bargainist.com during December. This site lists the best online shopping deals. Simply put, Bargainist searches for discounts for you. Browse the home page and click on appealing links. You can even begin to search Bargainist in October, as online Christmas deals come early.

Peradventure you are in the United States at the time –

Arrive early to avoid long lines and the lunch hour rush. Typically, you will have your best shot at the widest array of price-slashed on Day 1 of a sale during the opening hour. Some sample sales replenish goods throughout the week, but in my opinion, it’s typically as good as it’s ever going to get on opening day.
Most sample sales DO NOT have dressing rooms. Even mirrors can be hard to come by. Be prepared to strip down fast in a room full of deal-hunting strangers by wearing form-fitting layers (e.g., leggings and camisoles) underneath an easy-to-remove dress, long blouse or an oversized boyfriend button-up. And bring a friend who can be your mirror.

No baggage! Don’t bring your giant handbag or shopping bags from elsewhere. You will be asked to check all “carry on” items at the door, which usually just means you’ll have to wait in yet another line once you make it inside. Carry your cash and cards in your pockets or bring a wallet with a strap so you can keep your hands free to peruse the racks. If you see something you like but aren’t sure, hold onto it! Wait until you are finished looking around and then decide.

Inspect all items by checking for holes, broken zippers, and marker markings (e.g., garment has “sample” written with a sharpie across the inside of the back). Happy shopping!
